In the 1950s, America formed the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The agency’s job was to come up with new innovations and technologies that would help protect the military interests of the US. The history of internet can be traced back to the year 1962 when ideas about a connected network of computers was mooted. J C R Licklider headed the first computer research program for DARPA in 1962. He wrote about a Galactic network which would be able to access any electronic data from a huge network of computers. Every one of these computers will be inter-connected. The initial internet was known as ARPANET. It was constructed in 1968 using 4 Honeywell minicomputers, each of them placed at different locations.
